Meditation~

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

#Meditation is becoming increasingly popular, even doctors are starting to recommend this along with mindfulness instead of relying simply on medication. For me, meditation is a huge part of Spiritual development. Only when you ‘quiet the mind’ are you able to get information and inner guidance through from those in Spirit and our Higher Selves.

Meditation has many benefits, of course relaxation is the biggest gain. It can also help to relieve stress, anxiety, to lower blood pressure-the list goes on. I can guarantee you’ll come out of it feeling much better. If you haven’t tried it before, I recommend it. It’s not always about becoming more spiritual, it’s used for what you wish to gain from it. Everyone has their own inner guidance and questions they want answering, meditation is the best way to gain this knowledge as it gives you the opportunity to receive thoughts/feelings and ideas as your mind is still and your ‘ego’ aka ‘monkey mind’ is switched off.

I think the key to Meditation-should you wish to try it, is patience. It’s simply about being still, in the moment. People have said to me ‘well it’s impossible to not think of anything’, but by trying to not think, you are already working your brain, by thinking you should be getting rid of thoughts that come in and hence your mind is then working hard trying to empty itself of thoughts.

To meditate, you simply just relax, and should thoughts pop in to your head, as they will of course, for instance things you have to do, what you should be making for dinner, or tomorrow’s plans, you simply let them pass. Don’t try to get rid of them, just simply acknowledge them and let them go. It really is all about practice and there is no right or wrong way. Put some relaxing music on, sit quietly, in a comfy chair with your feet on the ground (laying down isn’t recommended as you’ll tend to fall asleep) Focus on your breathing, in and back out again and should your mind wonder, simply focus back to your breathing. You’ll find your mind will start to wonder as if in a day dream. Sometimes you’ll have nothing at all, but you are still benefiting by deeply relaxing the mind and body.

For those starting out, I’d recommend Guided Meditation videos on YouTube as that gives your mind something to focus on. As you practice, you may find you will see a random image, picture or colour pop into your mind, which may or may not make sense to you, but you’ll know when it’s not you placing those images there as they will just pop in and disappear just as quickly. As you advance you’ll find you are able to receive clear information, guidance and even answers to a particular question.
